Naughty Dog explains why ‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’ signals the end for the franchise
“Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” is a much-anticipated exclusive for the PlayStation 4. Recently, a Naughty Dog representative revealed that the coming game will stick true to its title as it will be the last chapter in the series.
In an interview with Kotaku during the PlayStation Experience, Naughty Dog’s lead game designer Robert Cogburn revealed a couple of reasons why “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” really does signal the end for the franchise. Cogburn’s reasons all boil down to the fact that the “Uncharted” games are complicated and too hard to make.
“These games are hard to make. Particularly with a character like Nathan Drake in a world that’s fairly grounded, it’s a challenge to consider how much more we can expand the universe while adhering to those sorts of rules,” said Cogburn to Kotaku.
The main problem of Naughty Dog is that almost everything has been done to make the previous “Uncharted” titles a hit. The story has been made to become better with each instalment. Even the combat and gameplay mechanics have been revamped each time. As such, the developer has already reached its limit when it comes to the quality of “Uncharted,” and it could be hard to top "A Thief’s End" with something even better.
Instead of continuing on with the “Uncharted” franchise, Naughty Dog is looking to exert their efforts and resources on another series. A sequel to the hit game “The Last of Us” could be the next project the developer is looking into, but it has yet to be confirmed by Naughty Dog.
Meanwhile, several reviewers have already gotten their hands on the game. Gamereactor reports that the current multiplayer mode of “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” plays similarly to its other iterations, and things are looking good for the game so far.
