The question provided by viewers through the pageant’s FB page was, “What is the greatest contribution from your country to the entire world?”
Here are the five disappointing answers to the 2014 Miss Universe pageant Top 5 Q&A.
Miss USA, Nia Sanchez was asked by world renowned boxer Manny Pacquiao to deliver a 30 seconds message on a global terrorrism. Sanchez responded with a brief answer, “As Miss USA I can only spread the message of hope, love, and peace.” To the Facebook question on "greatest contribution," Sanchez responded by saying that her country has wonderful “influence to the world” and is able to give back as much as it can.
Judge Giancarlo Stanton asked Miss Netherlands Yasmin Verheijen about the biggest change she wants to see for young women in the next generation. She answered by saying, she is an “ambassador for child prostitution” and stopping it is what she wants to see for the future generation. On her reply to the Facebook question, Verheijen cited her country’s art and culture as Netherland’s contribution to the world.
Miss Ukraine, Diana Harkusha was interviewed by Judge Lisa Vanderpump and was asked about the idea of removing the swimsuit competition from the pageant. Miss Ukraine told the crowd that she felt comfortable in everything and removing the swimsuit portion of the competition really depends on the situation. To answer the Facebook question, Diana said that her country is going through a rough time. Ukraine’s biggest contribution to the world is to support the army and the people so they can start restoring the schools and orphanages, she said.
Judge Emilio Estefan asked Miss Jamaica, Kaci Fennel about the ongoing issue of violence towards women and what can be done to eliminate it. She answered that everyone should work together to prevent it as the problem is a “global phenomenon.” To her Facebook question, Fennell proudly revealed that Bob Marley and Usain Bolt are Jamaica’s biggest contribution.
Miss Colombia Paulina Vega’s question came from Judge Rob Dyrdek and she was asked about what women could learn from men. Her answer to the question, according to Emirates 247, was that she believes that there are still men "who believe in equality" and she believed that is what women should learn from men. She said women continue fighting for "what we want to accomplish.” Her answer to the Facebook question of her country's contribution to the world was that Colombians’ perseverance is their biggest contribution to the world.
