An American man in Georgia, Atlanta has risked his life to save a case of beer from his burning house. The disabled man walked out from his burning house Thursday with a case of beer. He said he was lucky not to die.

Walter Serpit, who walks with a cane, first ensured his family of six adults and two children were out safely from their burning house Thursday. Then he remembered his case of beer kept in the fridge.

The Atlanta Jounal-Constitution reported the old man went right back into his burning house and saved several cans of beer.

"I told them to get the kids out and everything, and me myself, being an alcoholic, I was trying to get my beer out," Serpit said.

"I went back into the house like a dummy and the door shut on me because this back draft was about to kill me," he added.

Reports said the likely cause of the fire was a new water heater.
