KFC Extra Crispy Sunscreen: US fast food offers sun lotion that smells like fried chicken
Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) continues to expand beyond consumable menu. After its branches in Hong Kong and India released “finger-lickin’ good” nail polishes and mobile phone charger boxes respectively, KFC US has released “extra crispy” sunscreen.
The fast food giant had given away limited number of KFC Extra Crispy sunscreen in the US. The product, while seems like a joke, is actually a real thing. It has SPF 30 and doubles appears to double as a tanning lotion.
And yes, the product smells like KFC chicken but doesn’t taste like one. KFC explicitly reminded customers that even though the sunscreen “smells delicious,” it is not delicious and is even poisonous when consumed. “NOT a food product. Do not eat this product,” it reiterated.
It also included a hilarious ad to go along with the questionable product.

“The sun gives us life. But if we’re not careful, it also gives us painful sunburns. That’s why we made KFC’s Extra Crispy Sunscreen! Its SPF helps protect your skin while the real friend chicken scent leaves you smelling delicious!” KFC wrote.
The store gave away KFC sunscreens to a limited number of US customers through its website earlier this month. No purchase needed to qualify for the free sunscreens. However, the sunscreens are now sold out.
“This was a limited-time offer and we ran out of KFC Extra Crispy Sunscreen. Please accept our apologies in the form of this amazing website that you can still look at.”
This isn’t the first time KFC has come up with bizarre non-food items that remind people of its main food product.
In May, KFC Hong Kong released edible nail polished that tasted like the famous KFC chicken. The limited edition “finger-lickin’ good” nail polishes were provided to the media for market reaction.

KFC India, meanwhile, launched a giveaway contest for its limited edition functional takeaway box in June. The KFC Watt a Box has a built-in power bank that can be used to charge mobile phones.
