“Homeland” is set to come back for its sixth season. However, fans would have to wait longer than the previously announced release as Season 6 will be coming out on January 2017. News of two more seasons also recently came out.

In Seasons 4 and 5, “Homeland” was set internationally. Season 6 will bring everything home to the U.S. However, Showtime announced that even though the show normally airs in fall, this time around it would be on a premier slot for January.

One of the probable reasons why the sixth instalment will be moved to 2017 is because of the timeliness of the show’s intended plot, The Wall Street Journal notes. According to Showtime, Season 6 will delve on the aftermath of the U.S. Presidential election.

The whole season would take place from Election Day up to the president’s inauguration. The network says that the transition period in the government would be full of tension and anxiety. Varied competing interests would come out. Also, the transfer of power from the outgoing and incoming president-elect would be complex and fragile, Access Hollywood says.

It would still showcase Carrie Mathison, a CIA Agent, played by Claire Danes. The show still has Mandy Patinkin playing Saul Berenson and Murray Abraham as Dar Adal. Another returning cast is Rupert Friend as Peter Quinn. Because of the announcement of the returning characters, major questions on Season 5’s ending have been raised.

When the previous season closed, Peter Quinn’s character was on life support in the hospital. Carrie appeared to disconnect the machine. Now that Rupert Friend is confirmed to be coming back the next season, fans are asking what happened in the hospital.

Other than the presidential election setting, Season 6 also takes place months after Carrie’s mission in Berlin. Now, she finds herself based in Brooklyn. Carrie will be working for a foundation that aids Muslims who live in the United States.

Despite the news that the Season 6 premiere has been pushed back, fans still get some good news with the announcement that the TV show is getting two more seasons. David Nevins, CEO of Showtime, said that Claire Danes and Executive Producer Alex Gansa are both set to work on Seasons 7 and 8, Deadline reports.
