“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 11 will air a 2-hour special on ABC this Thursday, April 30. Titled “She’s Leaving Home,” the next new episode promo video shows Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) grieving. Meanwhile, Pompeo on Twitter expressed her thoughts on recent developments in the medical drama.

Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) dies in “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 11, episode 21 (“How To Save A Life”). He figures in a vehicular accident after saving lives on the road. In the end, Meredith is left with no choice but to take Derek off life support.

Dempsey himself has spoken about leaving “Grey’s Anatomy.” He thanked fans for their support and appreciated their emotional reaction to his character’s passing. Pompeo took a while to react, but she eventually tweeted her thoughts on Monday.

“I am honored and excited to tell the story of how Meredith goes on in the face of what feels like the impossible,” Pompeo said in a screenshot image of a statement, which was typed in a mobile note app. The actress pointed out there are countless people who “get up each day and do what feels like the impossible.”

Citing husbands and wives of soldiers, victims of violence and parents who lost their children, Pompeo hoped Meredith’s resilience will continue to move and inspire the fans of “Grey’s Anatomy.” Pompeo and Dempsey worked together for over 10 years as MerDer, the code popularized by fans of Meredith and Derek.

ABC’s new episode synopsis for Greys 11x22 ("She's Leaving Home") hints that other doctor couples at Grey Sloan Memorial are getting the spotlight. Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew) discuss their different points of view. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Ben (Jason George) talk about their future.

The new promo video also features a funeral scene, implying the Grey Sloan doctors will attend Derek's funeral. The clip also shows Meredith packing and Zola asking her where they're going. It remains to be seen whether Meredith will be leaving Seattle for a while.

This week’s new “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 11 episode kicks off the last three episodes of the season. Despite running for two hours, this April 30 episode is counted as one.

The “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 11 finale will air on May 14, back-to-back with another Shondaland drama, “Scandal.” Shondaland is run by Shonda Rhimes, the program creator of "Grey's Anatomy."
