As things get more twisted in “Gotham,” the characters just get deeper and more diverse in Season 3. More particularly, Ben McKenzie, who appears on the show as Jim Gordon, might even turn into a completely different character.

Spoiler alert! This article contains “Gotham” spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the new episode airs.

TV Line had an interview with the cast of "Gotham," where they answered key plot questions and teased what's in store for their respective characters in the upcoming third season. In the video, Robin Lord Taylor confirms that Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) will be gunning after The Penguin. David Mazouz, on the other hand, joked he is not getting paid twice the amount to play Bruce Wayne and his new doppelganger.

Ben Mckenzie then spills something that shocks even his own co-stars when he says “Yours truly might become another iconic DC character.” He even adds that such change might happen in the middle or at the end of the season.

Considering his already huge role not only in the series, but in the entire Batman franchise, fans are now wondering what Commissioner Gordon could have under his sleeve.

An early haul of the character’s comic book history shows that Gordon was once Batman himself, but only acted as a replacement while Bruce Wayne was gone. Another early comic book reveals that Commissioner Gordon was once a masked vigilante who assisted Batman and Robin and went by the name Mysteryman.

Although “Gotham” is not very faithful to the original source and very often reinvents happenings while giving it its own original spin, it is yet unknown as of this point as to what McKenzie’s revelation points out to.

“Gotham” has even a lot more in store as the trailer for the next season reveals the addition of new villains like The Mad Hatter and a new Poison Ivy. What gets a lot of fans excited is The Court of Owls, which is sort of like Gotham City’s own version of the Mafia. This group pulls strings around the city and sends its forerunner, The Talon, to do its dirty work, as reported by Collider.

“Gotham” Season 3 premieres on September 19 on FOX. It also airs on Syfy in Australia.
