Ex-Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh has passed away as the result of a suspected drug overdose, weeks after seemingly predicting his own death on Twitter and Facebook. The 40-year-old father-of-two was found dead in his hotel room in Chicago. He was due to watch Weezer headline Riot Fest in Chicago Oct. 10. Whilst no cause of death has been announced, circumstances are suspicious given his apparent predictions.

"dreamt i died in chicago next weekend (heart attack in my sleep). need to write my will today," tweeted the artist on Sep. 26. He later added, "correction - the weekend after next".

To add to the suspicion, on his Facebook page he had showcased a piece of his art, explaining that it was 'for sale for $250 dollars: if i am still alive at time of purchase, price to increase exponentially if i expire prematurely'.

Welsh became the bassist for Weezer in 1998 and played on the bands 'Green Album', released in 2001, which contained such hits as "Hashpipe" and "Islands in the Sun"

He had suffered a tormented existence, and in 2001 attempted attempted suicide. "Basically, a lifetime of doing drugs and being undiagnosed as having disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and borderline personality disorder finally caught up with me when I was 30 years old," said Welsh during an interview in 2007.

"We are shocked and deeply saddened to hear the awful news, our friend and fellow weez rocker @mikeywelsh71 has passed away. We love u Mikey," tweeted Weezer on hearing the news of Welsh's demise.

The artist leaves behind his wife and two children.
