There are already a lot of exciting and lovable characters in The CW’s line-up of DC superheroes. Their roster is about to get even more exciting as Black Lightning has been confirmed to be joining the family.

When word first came out that showrunner Greg Berlanti was developing a series about Black Lightning, fans were surprised to learn that he was pitching it to Fox, not to The CW, which is where four of his series already air. However, it looks like Berlanti has decided to come back home eventually.

Spoiler alert! This article contains “The Flash” spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens before the next episode airs.

In early February, The CW had announced that it had ordered a pilot for Greg Berlanti’s next comic book series. Fox was actually the first one who ordered a script from Salim and Mara Brock Akil, but later on decided not to move forward with it. This gave The CW the opportunity to swoop in and pick it up.

When this project kicks off, it would mark the fifth DC superhero show from Berlanti on The CW, after “Arrow,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” “The Flash” and “Supergirl.” All of these have been renewed for 2017 until 2018. If “Black Lightning gets the go signal for 2017 to 2018, sources reveal that the shows would be staggered throughout the year rather than be scheduled five consecutive nights where viewers would see a different superhero show.

This upcoming show is based on the DC character Jefferson Pierece, notes Variety. He had already made his decision to hang up the suit and his secret identity for years. Unfortunately, he has a daughter who becomes hell-bent on justice and one of his star students gets recruited by a local gang. He gets pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC icon Black Lightning.

The CW’s young adult audience looks like a perfect fit for a “Black Lightning” programming slate. As of this writing, there has yet been no word on whether or not viewers will get to see this new superhero in a crossover with “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “Arrow” or “The Legends of Tomorrow.” However, it has to be noted that these shows have had a recent shared trend about metahumans. Being a fellow DC superhero, and now a part of the CW family where all superheroes share on universe, crossovers are very likely to happen.

The Flash” airs every Tuesday at 8 p.m. on The CW. It also airs on FOX8 in Australia.
