'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Star Dakota Johnson Shows Preview Of Bedroom Skills In Short Film 'In A Relationship'

Before the much-anticipated worldwide release of “Fifty Shades of Grey,” the film’s lead actress Dakota Johnson has appeared in yet another short film that tackles the mature subjects of sex and relationships. Dakota stars in the short film entitled “In A Relationship.” The film, as the title suggests, deals with the nuances of being in a relationship in the modern age. The film was premiered in the Vogue Magazine website along with Dakota’s Vogue cover appearance.
In the film, Dakota plays the character of Willa, who is in a new relationship with Matt. The two met through their friends Abby and Owen who are the other subjects of the film. The couples are speaking to the camera about their relationships as if they are speaking to a therapist.
Willa and Matt are both asked about their relationship status and there is an immediate contrast. Matt thinks that they are definitely dating after only six days while Willa thinks that they are only just hanging out. The opening scene shows Dakota and her co-star Nicholas Braun (Matt) are having sex on a twin bed, a large deviation from the “red room of pain” that we will be seeing her in on “Fifty Shades of Grey.” The film follows the course of their relationship which shows Willa being hesitant to commit fully to the nice, sweet and slightly weird Matt.
Meanwhile, Abby and Owen are played by Sophie Simpson and Zachary Webber. Unlike Willa and Matt’s budding romance, Abby and Owen have been together for five years. They have sunk into a routine and both of them are starting to look for something new in the relationship. Abby is clearly bothered that after five years, she still hasn’t technically moved in with Owen and a proposal does not seem to be in the horizon.
In the end, Willa, who has been keeping Matt at arm’s length, is shocked when he decides to give up on the relationship and breaks up with her. She says she didn’t see it coming but reasons out that the nice guys become needy. Meanwhile, Abby walks out on Owen one day after she gets fed up by his lack of effort to step up their relationship. After a few days without her, Owen realises how much better doing nothing with Abby is rather than doing something without her. He seeks her out and finally asks her to move in with him.
The film ends with the couple’s fates taking opposite directions with the rest left off for the audience to figure out. Director Sam Boyd said that when he found out that Dakota got the part for “Fifty Shades of Grey,” she wouldn’t go through with the small project but she did. With “In a Relationship” being released just a few weeks before the worldwide premiere of “Fifty Shades of Grey,” Boyd says that it was cool of Dakota to do the project with him and he’s very grateful.
