Why crucify Shane Warne for a very slim figure if that is what the Aussie cricket star has been wanting for years.

An article by the Age reveals that Australia’s King of Spin is really emotional when it comes to his weight. And more reports show that the Aussie cricket legend has been trying to lose the excesses for years.

Back in 1997, Warne was featured as one of the displays for Madame Tussauds first exhibition in Melbourne. It was the time when Warne was at the height of his career, that made him Australia’s finest in cricket, that earned him the title as the world’s ‘Cricket Legend”.

The wax on display showed a slimmer Warne, who back then would unmindfully walk the Melbourne Cricket Ground with beer-belly. A reporter, said The Age, pointed out the wax thinner version to the Sheik of Tweak. Warne could reportedly not hide his disgust over the remarks, stormed out of the opening of the museum exhibition and zoomed off in his Ferrari.

The exhibition of Madame Tussauds Museum was attended by Australia’s prominent public officials and big personalities including then Premier, Jeff Kennett; John Howard, Elle Macpherson and Wayne Carey.

Warne’s ‘tantrum’ caught the world’s attention back then, reaching Britain’s papers including the Sunday Times which wrote an article titled, “The Top Ten Shane Warne Moments”. Warne’s outburst because of his weight was No. 6.

The Madam Tussauds opening in Melbourne was followed by a string of drug-related issues that Warne was embroiled in.

In February 2003, he was banned from playing at the Cricket World Cup after testing positive for a drug of substance. The Australian Cricket Board then ruled to suspend him for two years after being proven of taking drugs hydrchlorothizide and amiloride.

A separate report by BBC Sport noted that these drugs are both diuretics and they are both used to help anyone to achieve a temporary weight loss. Warne included.

Though shocked with the ruling, the King Spinner admitted taking the drugs. And he had good explanation for it.

"I'm shocked because I have not taken performance enhancing drugs, Warne was quoted as saying in 2003 by The Daily Mail.

And then the admission.

"I did take a fluid tablet before my comeback game in Sydney. The tablet is supposed to dehydrate you and rid your body of any excess fluid. I didn't know it contained any banned substance,” he insisted.

All he wanted was to lose that weight, as he claimed. And his career paid the price.

After his retirement in 2006, reports continue to emerge that he has been trying to lose weight. Another report says that he has been working hard to look good on television. Warne had a shot as a TV chat show presenter for Channel 9. News.Com.Au noted that after battling the bulges for decades, he has now finally lost tons of kilograms off his weight.

When he finally did, he is seen as emasculated and more girlie. And the public seemed to miss the chunky, burly Warnie.

Would his critics have wanted for Warne to take the pills like he did in 2003 instead of getting addicted to ‘diet shakes’? Shouldn’t his critics just thank Elizabeth if she really did influence the Aussie bloke for changing his looks?

Warne may be happier these days after fighting the bulges for years.
