Spoiler alert: This recap contains plot details about season 4 of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” The fourth season premiered Sept. 20. The series is available for Australian viewers to watch on SBS every Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.

Gina (Chelsea Peretti) is back at the precinct after being away for two months, although she’s still nursing some injuries. She also has a few accessories on her and is about a week away from getting her “halo” removed. She says she’s as strong physically as she has ever been – stronger even – and she repeats that multiple times. In spite of her condition, Gina can still apparently manage to dance.

Holt (Andre Braugher) announces that an auditor will be coming to the precinct to review the Nine-Nine. If the precinct fails to live up to standards, it’s getting shut down. Unfortunately for the squad, the auditor turns out to be Amy’s ex-boyfriend, Teddy, who still can’t get over the fact that she broke up with him for being boring.

Teddy finds out about the Nine-Nine’s issues, including a very expensive but broken copy machine that the previous captain bought and the precinct’s rat problem. Terry (Terry Crews) tries to fix the copier, which is Japanese made, but he is unable to fully work on it because Gina is in need of assistance in almost everything she does. She also spoils Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) and Charles’ (Joe Lo Truglio) rat solution for the same reason: they couldn’t say no to an injured person.

Terry finally fixes the copier, and an excited Holt says he hasn’t been more proud of his sergeant for anything in his life. But the cocaine-powered rats attack Charles, who’s stuck in the ceiling. He eventually falls directly into the Japanese copy machine, destroying it.

Meanwhile, Jake (Andy Samberg) and Amy pretend that they’re interested with whatever Teddy is into. They get invited to a “jazz brunch” by Teddy, who brings his new girlfriend Rachel (Jama Williamson) with him. Jake and Amy then pretend to have a huge fight to distract Teddy and deactivate his phone, which contains a recording of them insulting him. They successfully do so and storm out.

Not long after, Teddy admits to Amy that he’s still in love with her – and even proposes marriage – in front of Jake and Rachel. Amy tells him the truth and dismisses his proposal.

Back at the precinct, Holt uses Gina and her condition to make an NYPD crew do emergency clean up. Teddy arrives just in time to see the whole place all tidied up. He then announces that he has decided to have himself replaced as the Nine-Nine’s auditor, and the new one turns out to be Lieutenant Veronica Hopkins (Kimberly Hebert Gregory), someone Terry used to date.

“I’m shutting the Nine-Nine down,” she whispers to Terry. “And there is nothing you can do about it.”
