“Game of Thrones” fans hoping for a happy twist in last episode’s shocking finale lost their last hope when one of the show’s directors admitted to the President of the United States that his favourite character, Jon Snow, is really dead.

During the “Thrones” Comic Con panel on Friday, a fan asked the actors and crew in attendance what their greatest fan moment was. David Nutter, the director who helmed several of the series’ episodes, including "The Red Wedding" and "Mother’s Mercy," recalled an incident that happened three weeks ago: he met a person he called the show’s “number 1 fan,” Mr Barack Obama.

The president shook his hand and put the other on his shoulder before asking, “You didn’t kill Jon Snow, did you?” He joked how he was unsure whether he would be exiled for his answer or not but admitted that the beloved character “is deader than dead.” Mr Obama also told the director his favourite episode was “The Red Wedding” and that they keep on killing his favourite characters.

Another fan asked the panel who among them is going to miss Kit Harrington, the actor playing Jon Snow, the most. Conleth Hill, who plays Lord Varys, quipped, “His hair dresser?” making them laugh. Maisey Williams, who plays Arya Stark, jokingly added, “We couldn’t wait for him to be gone, to be honest. That hair? So annoying.”

Panel moderator Seth Meyers asked the group who read the book to know the possible outcomes of their characters, and Gwendoline Christie, the show’s Brienne of Tarth, admitted that she had. Meyers followed up whether fans spoiled them of their characters’ futures as it was written in the book and Williams admitted she experienced such encounter: She was told by some fans “Arya goes blind” and she pretended she was aware of that development even if she wasn’t.

Meyers queried what secrecy measures they had to take now that the show diverted from the books’ storyline and whether they had to sign a lot of paper work when they got their scripts. Hill deadpanned, “We can’t tell you.”

When a fan asked Natalie Dormer, Queen Margaery Tyrell, what schemes her character is cooking for next season, Dormer claimed cluelessness. She said how most of them in the panel have no idea what will happen next season as the writers closely guard their secrets and she had “no effing clue what’s gonna happen to Margaery.”

Meyers supported her claim by recalling how he tried to ask the cast about next season’s happenings backstage and he was told nothing even though he was “kind of famous so…”
