Android Mascots At The Google I/O Developers Conference

Android Open Source Project or AOSP experimental builds of Android 5.0 Lollipop have been spotted to run on two Sony Xperia smartphones. XDA developers featured Alpha 1 firmware build for Xperia L and Xperia Z with details on which functions are properly working.

Sony Xperia L (Taoshan) Android 5.0 Lollipop AOSP Experimental Build

XDA-recognised contributor and developer varun.chitre15 posted the Android 5.0 Lollipop AOSP experimental build for Sony Xperia L. It is currently in alpha stage and was made available since Nov. 9. It features the following working functionalities:

- Display screen

- Touchscreen recognition

- Hardware acceleration

- System audio output

- Hardware media decoding and playback for audio and video

- All known sensors such as auto-brightness, magnetic and accelerometer

- Headset support

- Vibration

- Primary and secondary cameras

- Internal and external storages

- LED lights

As of this stage, Android 5.0 Lollipop AOSP experimental build for Sony Xperia L does not support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, GPS and Radio Interface Layer, or RIL, which controls radio hardware for modem support and telephony services. Be reminded that the firmware is AOSP, which runs the vanilla user interface of Android 5.0 Lollipop, and does not feature any Xperia services. Sony Xperia Z Android 5.0 Lollipop AOSP Experimental Build

Sony Xperia Z 2013 model has been supported as well with Android 5.0 Lollipop AOSP experimental build. XDA senior member thomas1991_12 posted the firmware build, which features the following functionalities:

- Display screen and touchscreen

- Audio output

- Wi-Fi connectivity

- Vibration

- Primary and secondary cameras

- Radio Interface Layer or RIL

- Near Field Communication or NFC

- Bluetooth connectivity

- Sensors

- GPS

The developer did not mention any issues on specific functions on Sony Xperia Z running the Android 5.0 AOSP firmware, but anyone who installed the software are encouraged to submit feedback with logs included. Click here to get the firmware and read the proper installation process for Xperia Z.

Sony Xperia Z 2013 is included on the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade plans by Sony Mobile starting next year. However, Sony excluded Xperia L on any future upgrade plans including Android KitKat updates.
