"American Idol" 2014 Top 8 contestants are tasked to perform live on FOX the songs they picked for their auditions. Alex Preston (never been in the bottom three), is singing his original composition. Can he win this year's competition? Meanwhile, it seems Sam Woolf and C.J. Harris are in trouble.

American Idol Season 13 judges Jennifer Kopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr. noted a week ago the voters seem to be backing the strongest performances. Majesty Rose York, Sam Woolf, and C.J. Harris were in the bottom three. Majesty left the competition at 9th place.

It was first time for Harris to be in the bottom three. Many American Idol 2014 viewers agree Harris' "If It Hadn't Been for Love" (The Steel Drivers) cover was the worst of the Top 9 performance night. Even the judges seemed to agree. However, he was not the one with the lowest votes. How about this week?

This week on American Idol (Episode airing Apr. 2 on FOX), the Top 8 contestants get a chance to remind the judges (and the AI viewers) how they got to the Idol stage. C.J. Harris could shine with "Soul Shine" by Allman Brothers. Sam Woolf might engage his fans with "Lego House" by Ed Sheeran.

Sam Woolf is the only one in American Idol 2014 Top 8 who has been in the bottom three twice. Idol critics are wondering whether the "female tweens" have stopped voting. Or, the result may have been due to Woolf's inability to engage his prospective fans. Idol judge JLo tells him to sing his song to someone. It is perceived to be a polite way of saying, "do not be a snowman up there."

C.J. Harris has had two weeks in a row of bad, if not terrible performances on American Idol Season 13. The judges have been obviously frustrated because they had high expectations of him. Could this be the week when C.J. delivers a truly strong number?

Things are very different for the shy-type frontrunner, Alex Preston. Preston has never been in the bottom three. He has been delivering smart and solid performances of popular songs on American Idol. He may have even won over the tweens segment after his "Story of My Life" (One Direction) cover.

YouTube user @georgewashington uploaded a video featuring the lyrics to Alex Preston's audition song, called, "Fairy Tales." Check out the lyrics here. After Preston's audition, American Idol judge Harry Connick, Jr. remarked he would go see the young musician's show.

American Idol fans will be able to download this song from iTunes after the Top 8's live show.

American Idol 2014 (Season 13) airs on FOX Wednesdays and Thursdays. The eight remaining Idol hopefuls are: Alex Preston, Caleb Johnson, Jessica Meuse, Jena Irene, Malaya Watson, Sam Woolf, Dexter Roberts and C.J. Harris.
