When “American Horror Story: Roanoke” was about to debut, the crew was mysteriously secretive and quiet. Nobody knew what the season’s theme was until around two or three episodes already aired. This led to a twist in the show that nobody would have ever expected. This time, however, it looks like the show is taking another approach for its upcoming season 7.

Spoiler alert! This article contains “American Horror Story” spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the next episode airs.

The twisted plot of “American Horror Story: Roanoke” where viewers had no idea what they were watching until events spontaneously unveiled themselves, was not the season’s legacy. This is because this season was the first in the franchise that would tie together every previous season of “American Horror Story.” There have been a lot of plans for crossovers in the past, but Ryan Murphy’s promise to deliver an interconnected realm of Murder House, Asylum, Freak Show, Coven, Hotel and Roanoke itself was done very well.

Roanoke pointed out that all past seasons exist in the same universe. This was done by showing characters from other seasons, showcasing ancestry lines and a lot of familiar themes that were to obvious to be ignored. This could point out to something when the show returns for its seventh season next year.

Cinema Blend notes that Ryan Murphy himself has been quite gracious in letting a lot of details slip off about the upcoming seventh season. He reveals that for next year, the show will be going back to some characters from Freak Show, deeper histories and mythologies. Based on the season finale of “Roanoke” it also appears that Murphy is quite fond of the Freak Show season when Evan Peter’s Edward Philippe Mott was introduced; that puts a solid connection to the season with more to follow.

With what has been revealed, it looks like a big part of the FX series will dig into the main cast of Freak Show given how many characters were involved. Most notably, “American Horror Story” Season 7 will not be pre-empted by months of complete secrecy of themes and storylines.
