After Season 3 of FX's popular horror anthology series wrapped-up, Ryan Murphy, co-creator of "American Horror Story," had said that he already has an idea for Season 5. Later, he revealed that Season 4 of "American Horror story-Freak Show" will feature clues about the untilled Season 5 of "American Horror Story." The initial episodes made the fans speculate that the theme of Season 5 is likely to be space and revolve around aliens. Murphy, however, was quick to quash such speculations, saying that the new season is not about space. The second part of the Halloween episode, "Edward Mordrake" Pt. 2, featured a close-up shot of a top hat printed on a cup. Murphy has said that is the big clue for Season 5 of "American Horror Story".

In the episode, a police officer is seen giving Maggie a cup of coffee and there is a close up of a top hat, which is printed on the cup. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly (EW), Murphy confirmed that the top hat is the clue. He said, "That is a big season five clue! It's an arcane clue, but it's very purposeful, and it illuminates something that you'll be like, "Oh! You dirty b------!""

According to Huffington Post, fans on Reddit have spotted more appearances of the big clue. In episode 2, the two cups of coffee that the assistant, at the toy shop, is holding also has top hat printed on them. And in the diner scene, when Jimmy takes his freak friends out to eat, the top hat appears on the cover of the restaurant menu. Also, in the two part Halloween episode, the spirit of Edward Mordrake appeared sporting the top hat.

Meanwhile, in the interview, Murphy has also revealed that all the seasons of "American Horror Story" are connected. And, the writers of the show are just beginning to tell how they are connected. He said to EW, "They're all very separate but there's clues every season that we're now telling you how the different worlds are intertwined."

FX has already renewed "American Horror Story" for Season 5. It is expected to premiere in Oct. 2015.
