Having a pet cat at home is a big responsibility. You have to be very particular about their diet because there are many dangerous foods for cats that you have to be aware of. These foods when eaten by your beloved pet can cause illness and may even lead to death.

  1. Chocolate

People love chocolates and cats are attracted to them too especially if they see you eating a bar and licking your fingers afterwards. However, these sweet treats are a big no-no to cats. Chocolates contain theobromine that can cause heart related diseases and seizures in cats.

  1. Dairy

You may not be aware of it but most cats are lactose intolerant. This means their body can’t easily break down dairy products and cause them to have diarrhoea and even vomiting. Keep your milk away from their paws and be sure to wash glasses immediately to prevent them from licking remaining milk from your glass.

  1. Raw meat and fish

Cats are meat lovers but you should never give them raw meat and fish no matter how they love to take a bite. These foods can cause vomiting and diarrhoea especially if your cats aren’t used to them. They can also cause salmonella and E coli poisoning.

  1. Alcohol

Alcoholic beverages are good for humans but never for cats. Did you know that alcohol has the same effects on humans and cats? The only difference is that the side effects are far worse in your cats. For instance, a few teaspoons of whiskey can already leave your cat in a coma or even put an end to its life.

  1. Caffeine

Just because you always enjoy a cup of coffee especially in the morning doesn’t mean you should give some to your cat too. Caffeine poisoning is a common cat killer because there’s no antidote for it. Common symptoms include restlessness, rapid heartbeat, and palpitation.

Protect your pet from these dangerous foods for cats. Give them healthy foods suited for their needs.
