A Brazilian body builder almost lost both his arms in the wake of becoming someone like the “Incredible Hulk.” The 25-year-old reportedly used injections to grow synthetic muscles, which led to a variety of health problems, almost leading to amputation of both his arms.

Romario dos Santos Alves, a bodybuilder from Caldas Novas, Brasil, started to inject a mixture of alcohol and oil to grow huge biceps muscles. Soon he became addicted to the practice and it became hard for him to stop injecting the mixture. Alves started to grow his physique using injection back in 2012.

Over a period of time, the bodybuilder's biceps muscles had become so hardened that he was not even able to inject himself with the needles anymore. However, Alves had become so addicted to the injections that he even tricked his 22-year-old wife to inject him with the oil at the places where he could not reach. The oil-alcohol mixture or “synthol” is known to cause embolism, stroke, infections, and nerve damage.

Although the repeated injections helped the bodybuilder grow 25-inch biceps, it also landed him up at the hospital bed because of continuous and constant pain caused by the filler. The physicians at the hospital diagnosed him of the necrotic tissue in the arms, that can even leave his arms amputated. The necrotic bacteria are known to infect the tissue and eat it away. In addition, Alves the toxins in the injection resulted in heavy damage to both his kidneys.

"I remember the doctor told me that they would need to amputate both arms. They said everything in there, all my muscles, were rock. It was either that or cut all of my muscles out," said Alves, reported The Huffington Post.

Surgeons eliminated the need to amputate the bodybuilder's arms by successfully removing the so-called “rocks” or the hardened muscles formed in both his arms. Post-surgery, Alves confessed that he continues to be a bodybuilder, however, now he has restricted himself to the natural means of bodybuilding, and swears not to use the artificial means again.
