“Mr Robot” showrunner Sam Esmail has been really generous in providing hints about what’s to come in the American drama as it returns for its third run. He revealed that Mr Robot (Christian Slater) would definitely stick around.

In the last instalment, viewers have witnessed how Rami Malek (Elliot Alderson) tried to get rid of his imaginary father. The lead character at least tried to purge his hallucinations from his life but with no success. It was made to appear that Mr Robot has become a part of him.

"That’s what Elliot has to do: see that vision of the future he wants that’s worth going through all of this for. Not only does he want to live and continue, but he realises that fighting Mr Robot is a moot point and an impasse," Esmail told Deadline.

Esmail’s revelation is definitely good news for Slater's fans. Fans can keep their peace in knowing that he will likely return to play his character on“Mr Robot” season 3.

Esmail has also emphasised that the show is about the emotional journey of Elliot. In the first season of the show, the character has been introduced as one with nihilism, a state of mind in which a person feels life is meaningless. “Anyone who suffers from this debilitating mental illness goes into a downward spiral of depression, hits a paralysis point, and they can isolate themselves,” the showrunner explained.

But Elliot is the type who would fight isolation. In the first episodes of the show, Elliot diagnosed himself with schizophrenia, a chronic mental disorder affecting how a person thinks, feels and behaves. In the second instalment, his newfound friend, Leon (Joey Bada$$) has inspired him to fight his demons.

The showrunner has also shared about one of his inspirations for the show. He pointed to the Egyptian revolution, in which people protested and demanded the overthrow of their president as motivation for “Mr Robot.” He said the society is still going through a lot of pains, which is a sobering part of revolution.

The showrunner described the first instalment of the series as the revolution. Season 2, he said, was “about the hangover of revolution.”

“Mr Robot also stars Martin Wallström (Tyrell Wellick), Stephanie Corneliussen (Joanna Wellick) and Michael Cristofer (Phillip Price) among others. Its sophomore season aired on Showcase in Australia. Talk is rampant that the third season will premiere in June or in May but release date for season 3 is not yet officially confirmed. Official air date for the third season is expected to be announced in the near future.
