Stephen may be a new favourite for the role of Grey in "Fifty Shades of Grey" but he has tough competition with another fan favourite, Ian Somerhalder. Who between Ian Somerhalder and Stephen Amell should play Christian Grey in much anticipated film adaptation?

E.L. James best-selling erotica novels, "Fifty Shades of Grey," continue to be buzzed about. With Universal Studios set to release a film adaptation on the novel by 2014, fans of "Fifty" are all too excited for the official cast reveal. The mission to find the perfect actors and actresses to portray Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele is getting steamier each passing day.

Who exactly is leading the polls for the role of the 27-year old S&M enthusiast, Christian Grey? Formerly number one, Matt Bomer sits in second place for the role of Christian Grey. Leading in a lot of web polls and consistently being a favourite for Christian is "Vampire Diaries" star, Ian Somerhalder. The possibility of Ian being cast had risen all thanks to his comment on "Watch What Happens Live."

"I think they have a very big job ahead of them, casting this role... So, I can't say anything other than, it's a very interesting story and whoever plays that role is going to have a lot of fun rehearsal time," stated Ian.

Somerhalder may be a consistent favourite for the role of Christian but he's about to get kicked off the top with the latest favourite, Stephen Amell. The "Arrow" star had catapulted into the charts all thanks to his topless and not to mention noteworthy abs on the television series. Like Ian, Stephen expressed interest in the role of Christian Grey during a Q&A session with his Facebook fans.

"I get questions about Christian Grey all the time. That project is a long way off. I know this, because I had a meeting about it. Long way off. I mean, not that long, but not close. I wouldn't call it long, but I wouldn't call it close," explained Amell.
