"Vampire Diaries" actress Nina Dobrev had a short-lived romance with "Dancing with the Stars" professional dancer and choreographer Derek Hough after dating for 6 weeks. However, the two seem to be in good terms based on a recent interaction on social networking site Twitter.

Nina Dobrev reconnected with Derek Hough after picking up on his post that reads: "Creativity is a drug I cannot live without." The 24-year old actress wrote on her Twitter account @ninadobrev: "#REPOST @derekhough Ditto! I guess not all addictions are bad :)."

In the Us Weekly report that confirms the Nina-Derek split, distance became a problem for the couple since Ms Dobrev films her CW TV series in Atlanta while Mr Hough is based in Los Angeles. "The distance was too much to handle," an unnamed source friends with the pair revealed.

Derek's sister, Julianne Hough, became cupid in bringing her brother and her best friend together. Though Nina and Derek have called it quits, the Us Weekly report further stated that Julianne and Nina remain BFFs. "Julianne understands - there are no hard feelings," another anonymous source revealed.

Is there a chance now for a Nina-Ian reconciliation now that Canadian beauty is single again? Some TVD fans are certainly hoping that the pair will get back together again in real life especially now that their onscreen characters Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert are in a romantic relationship in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5.

Another reason speculated to be behind the Nina-Derek split is the actress being not yet ready to get into a serious relationship after ending her three-year relationship with Ian Somerhalder. Ms Dobrev stated: "I've been a relationship girl and I've been in long-term relationships my whole life until this point. So I think I'm looking forward to spending some time with myself and finding myself again. I'm just discovering different sides of me and growing and then I'll figure out what I like in a man when I see it."

For the time being, fans can still see Nina Dobrev with Ian Somerhalder as onscreen couple Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore in the brand new Season 5 of "The Vampire Diaries" that airs Thursday nights at 8/7c on the CW Network.
