Female Tunisians could be considered the modern-day equivalent of comfort women as they provide sexual comfort to rebel Syrians. The comfort women during World War II were mostly Asian women raped by Japanese soldiers; now, it is the turn of Tunisian women to play the same role, but willingly, in the approaching World War III scenario.

Tunisian Interior Minister Lotfi ben Jeddou disclosed to legislators of the country's National Constituent Assembly on Thursday the sexual jihad that Tunisian women had been engaging in.

"They have sexual relations with 20, 30, 100 militants ... After the sexual liaisons they have there in the name of jihad al-nikah' (sexual holy war, in Arabic) - they come home pregnant," AFP quoted Mr Jeddou.

Some hardline Sunni Muslim Salafists allow extramarital sex with different partners as a legitimate form of holy war or jihad. Ynet News quoted a report from Fars, the Iranian news agency, that a religious decree was allegedly issued, allowing sexual relations between women and rebels, but they could engage in sexual activities on certain hours only, and having multiple partners was allowed for one day.

The minister did not have the number of Tunisian women who have become pregnant after their sexual jihad in Syria, but he said the Tunisian government had stopped 6,000 female citizens from going to Syria to engage in sexual jihad by placing tougher border controls.

In August, a group of Tunisian women were caught on their way to Syria via Chaambi mountain which is near the Tunisian border with Algeria, the minister said.

Besides Tunisian women, males too have joined jihadists not to provide sexual services but as armed mercenaries helping rebels bring down the government of Syrian President Bashal al-Assad.

The exodus among Tunisian men for war-torn countries such as Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan has been ongoing the past 15 years with the males travelling through Turkey or Libya to reach their destinations.
