Will there be a King in the North? Fans of the book series by George R. R. Martin speculate what happens next in the upcoming book "Winds of Winter." The book series is known for dramatic twists that includes deaths of major characters. [Spoiler Alert]

Perhaps Robb Stark had the strongest claim to be the King in the North, for starting the big rebellion against the Iron Throne. But with his death the role of the Lord of Winterfell and the possible position of King in the North will have to fall on one of his siblings.

Some of the strongest claims to the position of King in the North are by Bran Stark, Jon Snow, Rickon Stark and Arya Stark. Some of the members at the Westeros forum speculate as to who has a better chance of becoming the Lord of Winterfell and ruling the north.

Jon Snow is one of the favourite characters among the fans. But some of the fans believe that if he is found to be still living in "Winds of Winter," he may be destined for greater things like ruling the seven kingdoms. The position of Lord of Winterfell may fall on Rickon Stark, if Davos Seaworth manages to find the boy.

Another strong contender for the position of King in the North is Bran Stark. His powers have already gown to a large extent and are expected to grow further under the tutelage of the Three-eyed Crow. The Three-eyed Crow had promised Bran that although he may not be able to teach him to walk, he will teach him to fly. Some of the fans speculate this to mean that Bran will learn to warg into a dragon.

Two other remote possibilities include Arya Stark or the children of Robb's wife Jeyne Westerling. But all the characters are still a far way off to staking their claim to the position of Lord of Winterfell. The north is currently being controlled by the Boltons and Stannis Baratheon has challenged Ramsay Bolton to a battle.

This is one of the biggest anticipated battled in "Winds of Winter," which will decide the future of the north and will have a bearing on the people of the Night's Watch and their battle against the White Walkers. Will one of the Stark children be able become Lord of Winterfell? Or will the White Walkers spoil everyone's plans in "Winds of Winter"? Please leave your comments below.
