There have been many theories about what Stannis Baratheon will do in "Winds of Winter." One theory that may have a long term impact on the future of the character and the storyline of the series as a whole is that of him turning more into a northerner. [Warning: Spoiler Alert]

Stannis Baratheon may have to call the north his new and only home, if his fortress at Dragonstone falls to his enemies. One of the fans at the Westeros forum believes that Stannis may never get the chance to return to his seat in the south and may be turning into a northerner.

The path of Stannis turning into a northerner may begin with a choice he has when it comes to Theon Geryjoy. Stannis may have to sacrifice Theon in order to appease the people of the north. This may be done to give justice to the Stark family. But the question is what form of death he will choose.

Stannis has so far been a follower of the fire god R'hllor and the followers of the new faith would want Stannis to burn Theon alive. He may, however, sacrifice Theon to the old gods to appease the people still loyal to the Starks. In either case this may be the end for Theon in "Winds of Winter."

Stannis Baratheon prides himself to be a man of justice. He has shown his inflexibility on justice when he rewarded Davos for his service but at the same time cut off his fingers as punishment for his past deeds as a smuggler.

The execution of Theon may make Stannis more acceptable to the people of the north. The fan theory further states that Stannis' temperament, such as his sense of justice and honour, is very similar to the character of the people in the north.

According to some of the fans, Stannis Baratheon may begin to turn away from Melisandre and move more towards the old gods, for more political and practical reasons. Will the people of the north support Stannis and his claim to the Iron Throne? Everything will depend on whether or not he beats Ramsay Bolton in a must win battle in "Winds of Winter."
