According to ABC News, the incident took place onboard VA328 on Sunday. The vape is said to have activated in the cabin just as the plane was making its landing.
Per The Guardian, a passenger had alerted the crew when vapour and smoke were seen coming from the vape.
The vape unit was contained and was removed from the aircraft by firefighters.
It should be noted that vape units contain small lithium batteries which can spark fires. Per Virgin Australia's regulations, vapes as well as e-cigarettes should be placed in carry-on luggage only.
