Nintendo has been diligently updating “Super Mario Maker.” The newest slew of updates will bring in new keys and items, as well as a new mode.

In a new update, Slashgear reported that Nintendo will now allow for locked doors and the use of keys in “Super Mario Maker.” Having locked doors and keys will allow fans to emulate “Super Mario 2” where players needed to find the keys accompanying the locked door to go through.

According to the source, the keys can be hidden in a specific location. They can also be used to pass through a boss, making boss fights a must in a specific level. This will bring the level-building title an even richer experience, because it adds the mechanic of key collection to just jumping through obstacles.

To add even more texture and hark back to previous “Super Mario” titles, the new update is also adding the Skewer feature. The update will allow the Thwomp to become a Skewer upon shaking.

Finally, another feature in the update is the addition of the Super Expert mode. As the name implies, the Super Expert mode will be added to the 100 Mario Challenges. It will bring in more unlockable Mystery Mushroom costumes, and finishing the mode will introduce six more levels.

Just recently, “Super Mario Maker” received Chitoge Kirisaki, the blond heroine in “Nisekoi.” The video below shows off the pixelated version of Chitoge in her trademark uniform, blond locks and red hair bowtie. Fans of the manga and Japanese anime version of “Nisekoi” may be pleasantly surprised by this addition, as Gematsu stated that this one of the more unexpected costumes for “Super Mario Maker.”

“Super Mario Maker” has also been included in the Pokemon 20th anniversary. The three original starter Pokemon, Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle, have all become playable costumes in the game. The costumes had been released for free, but The Verge reported that these can only be unlocked once the player finishes the Pokemon-themed course in “Super Mario Maker.”
