Earlier today, reports suggest that Filipina newsreader, Korina Sanchez, has been forced to take a week-long 'vacation' from her mother station, ABS-CBN. Many are suggesting that Sanchez is actually 'suspended' due to her comments against CNN's Anderson Cooper.

Though Sanchez's official reason for being absent in primetime news is labeled as a 'personal leave,' citizens think otherwise. ABS-CBN has yet to release a statement about the newsreader's "leave" or "suspension," and journalists are suggesting that Sanchez should be absent from the airwaves for now.

Cooper, an acclaimed CNN reporter, was blasted by Sanchez for his coverage on the devastation caused by typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in Tacloban City, the epicenter of the shattering calamity. Cooper mentioned in his report that he is unsure who is handling the relief operations, which seems to be on a slow pace at day 5.

Sanchez, in her radio program, blurted out that Cooper "does not know what he is talking about," (he does not know where he speaks of) right when she is in a news center, taking comfort inside a secured facility. Netizens responded in rage and compared the efforts of Cooper, who took the time to fly in the Philippines to witness the aftermath himself, to Sanchez's easily-made opinions.

Sanchez's marriage to a Filipino politician, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary Mar Roxas, is public knowledge, and her biased statement has placed her under fire. Cooper then dared Sanchez to see the devastation herself, and added that since she is the wife of a politician, there should be no problem in booking a flight. Sanchez's last appearance on live television was on Thursday, when she flew to Ormoc to answer Cooper's demand.

The question is, should Sanchez be banned from the airwaves until all relief efforts are ongoing?

Gerry Plaza, a writer for Yahoo Philippines, mentioned that Sanchez committed serious journalism mistakes because of her hasty commentary. Plaza says that Sanchez publicly questioned the CNN reporter's remarks without "actually communicating" with Cooper, who was in ground zero at that time. Plaza further suggests that a prominent reporter taking a vacation leave at this distraught time seems unlikely, and that she should "go mute" for longer. It is also quite surprising that none from the ABS-CBN news team is siding with Sanchez, while CNN strongly supports Cooper and all his efforts, calling Sanchez's remarks "bizarre" and "inaccurate."

The amount of political bias that is present in Sanchez's reporting is undeniably prominent, and it goes hand-in-hand with her statements and comments. As a rule, no newscaster or reporter with direct relationships to high-ranking politicians should be allowed to lead a news brigade, no matter which issue or national event it is about, let alone be an active reporter on air. In conclusion, ABS-CBN should definitely 'suspend' Sanchez longer; especially that Roxas has plans to run for the 2016 Philippine Presidential elections.
