This Christmas, Samsung and Facebook have something really exciting to offer to you all. In time for the holiday sale season, Samsung released its Gear VR powered by Oculus, which is now owned by Facebook. The virtual reality device is now available in the U.S. for just US$99 (AU$139).

It’s a simple mobile virtual reality headset that works with the Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 smartphones. Users can also purchase the latest Samsung Gear VR from online retailers, including Amazon and Best Buy. Currently, both the retailers are running ‘Out of Stock’, however.

In its efforts to reach out to millions, Samsung in association with Facebook launched Samsung Gear VR, the consumer-oriented virtual reality headset. Samsung also released a commercial (shown below) of the new Gear VR in collaboration with Oculus. The ad displays the simplest way of using the VR headset.

Users can simply put the smartphone inside the headset and take a plunge into the magical world of virtual reality at an affordable price. The device uses the smartphones’ display to showcase the virtual reality experience. It’s lighter than its predecessor.

A smooth and improved touchpad and better navigation makes the VR headset even more coveted. Samsung Gear VR can play dozens of games such as Gunjack, Mortal Blitz and Lands End, reports PC Mag.

In the United States, T-Mobile will be the first wireless carrier to offer the VR headset. Starting Nov. 27, Samsung Gear VR will be available on T-Mobile in select retail stores and online at US$99.99, reported Android Central. In Europe, the device is up for pre-orders on the company’s official website in Germany and Netherlands at €99.99 (AU$148).

Facebook acquired Oculus in March 2014. Samsung Gear VR brings seamless amusement and a different view of the surroundings. Users can now watch movies, play games and 360 degree videos in all new way, reports CNET. Indeed, a perfect Christmas gift and one described by Fortune as the best money can buy.
