Samsung included several unique perks on the Galaxy S5 smartphone which impressed the public. But, there are more secrets hidden inside and concealed from the eye that users should know when using Galaxy S5.

My Magazine

My Magazine acts similarly with Flipboard app except it is native rather than a third-party service. Go to Settings > My Magazine, then configure the topics you desire to personalise the feeds. Once enabled, it will appear on the home screen with swipe left to right gesture to show the latest updates. Swiping down from the top area will refresh the contents like other social apps do.

Toolbox

You can find this at the Settings menu or via Quick Access settings in the notifications pull-down. Toolbox allows you to create additional shortcuts for applications such as camera, voice recorder, browser and calculator. You may swap other apps to suit your needs.

Priority List

Samsung's default messaging app features a Priority List which you can configure to enlist close friends, relatives and other contacts you like to become the primary recipients of your SMS/MMS. Go to Messages then tap the plus icon to select specific contacts.

Tilt to Playlist

If you don't have the time to manually create playlist inside the music app, tilt the device horizontally and let the system pull your favourite music from Recently Played and Most Played tabs under a single playlist.

Colour Coding

You can further customise the app folders on your Galaxy S5 by using different colour schemes. Long press on the app you want to include in a folder then tap the ellipses button to view five colours to choose from.

Built-In Photo Editor

Samsung expanded the photo editing tool inside the Gallery app which now allows changes such as remove red-eye, brighten face, out-of-focus, label, sticker and drawing.

Quick Connect

S Beam is used to share contents to another wireless device via Near Field Communication and Samsung enhanced it using Quick Connect. You can now push contents by simply pressing the option at the notifications shade then select from the list presented.

Hiding Files

You can hide files without using third-party apps on Galaxy S5 by simply going to Settings > Private Mode. Select any photo, music, movie or file stored on your device to be hidden from instigating spectators.

Using Stylus or Gloves

Galaxy S5 is compatible with stylus pen or gloves by increasing its touch sensitivity. Go to Settings > Display > Increase touch sensitivity.

Stop Call from Interrupting

Whenever a call comes in, its notification occupies the entire screen which will interrupt whatever you are doing inside an app. In order to get calls without getting disrupted, go to Settings > Call options then configure the full-screen notifications during any calls.

Ultimate Power Saving

For optimal power saving, you can activate the power saving mode from the settings menu to enhance battery conservation. It will stop all unnecessary features, turn the screen to greyscale and simplifies the home screen without disrupting SMS or call function.

Downloading Files

Download Booster enables faster download of files and works better with large-sized files. Go to Quick Settings > Activate and it will enable both Wi-Fi and mobile data to download stuff from the Internet quicker.

Dual Apps

Multi-window is still available on the Galaxy S5 and it works for two applications. You can resize the window of each app and drag them all over the screen. Hold press the Back key then tap on the pop-up at the left side of the screen. Tap and drag the apps you want to be in multi-window mode. This works better in landscape orientation mode.

Faster Browsing

In addition to Download Booster, Galaxy S5 features Multiple Input and Multiple Output technology that uses two Wi-Fi antennas for faster Web browsing.

Cleaning Is Much Better

Stop worrying too much about cleaning the grime on your Galaxy S5 since it can now be removed easily using a wet cloth unlike with Galaxy S4 due to water-resistance. Additionally, it is completely sealed from dust which prevents clogging the display screen and other holes on its unibody.
