There's a new colour option for the Google Nexus 5 smartphone. It now comes in red. The red 5" phone from the search engine giant is perfect and just in time for Valentine's Day 2014 on Feb. 14, 2014. The red Google Nexus 5 is now available for only AU$399 for the 16GB and AU$449 for the 32GB version at the Google Play Store. According to CNET Australia, the U.S. carrier Sprint recently hinted on a possible red Google Nexus 5 to arrive on Feb. 4, 2014. And, the rumours are indeed true! Aside from Australia, it will also be available in other countries including U.S., UK, Canada, Japan, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Hong Kong, Korea and India.

The red Google Nexus 5 still runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, like the black and white ones that came before it. It can be purchased on the Google Play Store (Click HERE to visit its Web site) and upon ordering, it will reportedly be shipped within 1-2 days to Australia. CNET Australia warns buyers to get it as soon as they can because stocks of it may not last long. The black and white Google Nexus 5 were out of stock soon after its launch in Australia at the end of 2013.

According to the official Google Nexus 5 Web site, these are its tech specs:

  • 4.8 oz. and 8.59mm
  • 4.95" 1920x1080 display (445 ppi)
  • AndroidTM 4.4, KitKat®
  • Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3
  • Full HD IPS
  • 2 cameras (1.3MP front facing and 8MP rear facing with Optical Image Stabilization)
  • Qualcomm SnapdragonTM 800, 2.26GHz processor (CPU)
  • Adreno 330, 450MHz (GPU)
  • 2G/3G/4G LTE and Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4G/5G) 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • Wireless charging

The Android Guys reported back in Sept. 17, 2013 that the Google Nexus 5 was codenamed Hammerhead. Google co-developed it with LG Electronics and it succeeds the Google Nexus 4 smartphone.

It's great that Google decided to make a red Google Nexus 5. Now, there will be more options for Google Nexus 5 fans, especially those who like more colourful phones compared to the previously released monochromatic options of white and black. It's also perfect for the love month of February, just in time for Valentine's Day 2014. It would even make a great gift for a loved one, or maybe just a gift for yourself.
