PEGI listing reveals several PS2 titles for the PS4

Current-gen consoles are slowly becoming more friendly to gamers from all generations. With the Xbox One featuring backwards compatibility for some Xbox 360 titles, Xbox One owners can expand their game libraries to include classic titles from the last-gen console. It seems Sony may be joining the trend as new reports show some PlayStation 2 titles with release dates for the PlayStation 4.
Video game classification board PEGI recently rated several PlayStation 2 titles; “Ape Escape 2,” “Twisted Metal: Black” and “Dark Chronicle” for release on the PS4 according to Gematsu. However, Sony has not yet confirmed the release of these titles as of now.
The titles which could possibly be playable on the PlayStation 4 are some of the hit-titles on the PlayStation 2. “Dark Chronicle” for example, is an action RPG which many critics praised for its neat graphics, dubbing it as one of the best looking games of its era. “Twisted Metal: Black,” on the other hand, was one of the highest rated game in the “Twisted Metal” series.
Before, Sony offered PlayStation 3 owners the ability to download some select PlayStation 2 titles because of the former’s lack of backwards compatibility. The PlayStation 2 titles can be played after digital download only. What this means is that any physical copy of PlayStation 2 games is obsolete on the PlayStation 3.
Sony’s PlayStation 4 currently lacks the ability to play previous console titles, even through digital downloads.
The ratings could signal in a new era for Sony as this could mean that the company is willing to release more PlayStation 2 titles in the future. However, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida announced that the company has no current plans to allow PlayStation 3 titles on the PlayStation 4 Gamespot reports.
On the other hand, Microsoft is beefing up its Xbox One with the backward compatibility feature for Xbox 360 games. This will be made available from the November system update.
