‘New Girl’ season 6, episode 7 spoilers, recap: Schmidt’s dad almost ruins the holiday feast on ‘Last Thanksgiving’

Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and company look to have the best Thanksgiving ever, but all of their plans go down the drain when Robby (Nelson Franklin) makes a surprise appearance and Schmidt's (Max Greenfield) dad arrives broken-hearted on “New Girl” season 6, episode 7 (New Girl 6x07).

Spoiler alert: This recap contains plot details about season 6 of “New Girl.” The sixth season premiered Sept. 20. The show is available in Australia via Tenplay.

Jesse, Nick (Jake Johnson), Winston (Lamorne Morris), Schmidt and Cece (Hannah Simone) plan their Thanksgiving dinner together when Robby unexpectedly arrives. Jess’s on-and-off boyfriend is supposed to visit his folks but is too injured to fly. Jess wants to break up with him once and for all but can’t muster the courage to do so.

Schmidt, meanwhile, is excited to spend Thanksgiving for the first time with his dad, Gavin (Peter Gallagher). Unfortunately, Gavin arrives nursing a broken heart after his girlfriend, Ann Kim (Emily Chang), broke up with him. Nick, who is also down because his girlfriend is unable to come over for the feast, invites Gavin for a drink.

Schmidt realises that the only way to save his Thanksgiving is for Gavin and his ex-girlfriend to get back together. Schmidt takes Nick with him to see Ann Kim. They try to convince her to give Gavin another chance, only to find out that Gavin cheats on Ann Kim with five other women.

Back in the apartment, Robby sees Gavin hitting on Jess and he gets jealous. Jess and Robby eventually talk and decide to break up. When Schmidt confronts Gavin for being a womaniser, Robby interjects and stands up for Jess. Robby then scolds Gavin for trying to make Jess the seventh girl he’s dating.

Gavin apologises to Schmidt for his behaviour and they eventually sort things out. Jess, meanwhile, convinces Robby to get back together and start dating again.
