New Android 4.4.2 KitKat 10.5.A.0.230 Build Certified for Sony Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and Xperia Tablet Z
PTCRB certified another Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Xperia Z, ZL and Tablet Z with build version 10.5.A.0.230. It is a small level-up version that likely contains necessary bug fixes on the previous and unreleased 10.5.A.0.227 firmware build.
New Android KitKat for Xperia Z, ZL and Tablet Z
PTCRB certified another firmware build version on May 6th running Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Sony Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and Xperia Tablet Z. It has the build version 10.5.A.0.230 and succeeds the previously certified 10.5.A.0.227 firmware which was not released.
Due to its small incremental change on the build numbering, it is expected to contain various bug fixes and enhancements for the 10.5.A.0.227 firmware. Moreover, the increase on the build version number may signify strong chance of getting rolled out in mid-May unless there is another Android 4.4.2 KitKat in works.
Unfortunately, there is no firmware certification update yet for the Sony Xperia ZR but owners should not worry yet for the software could be just around the corner waiting to be announced soon.
Android 4.4.2 KitKat 10.5.A.0.230 firmware build version has been certified for Xperia Z C6603, C6606 and C6616, Xperia ZL C6506 and Xperia Tablet Z SGP321.
Android 4.4.2 10.5.A.0.227 Build Version
Previously certified Android 4.4.2 KitKat 10.5.A.0.227 build version for Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and Xperia Tablet Z was announced by PTCRB in April 29th. It is the same firmware build version which leaked recently online and became downloadable from XDA developer forum.
XDA forum member DooMLoRD posted the said Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware and can only be used for Xperia Z C6602 and C6603 with unlocked boot loaders. It was meant for developer models or the so-called "brown devices" but DooMLoRD was able to make it boot up for commercial units.
According to DooMLoRD's notes, the firmware is under internal testing stage and some features may not be present once released officially. Additionally, the firmware itself contains several lags which could be the main reason why 10.5.A.0.230 was certified.
You may download the leaked ROM to give it a try on your Xperia Z but make sure to create a manual backup of all stored files and personal settings plus a nAndroid backup of the current ROM in case you decide to revert back immediately.
