Minecraft 1.8, the latest adventure update to the hugely popular sandbox building indie video game written in Java by Swedish creator Markus "Notch" Persson, is now available to those who can't wait for the official update. But the pre-release is still buggy.

A blog post by Persson last week indicated that Minecraft 1.8 is still in undergoing testing, and the Sept. 8 release will again be postponed. But a pre-release version of Minecraft 1.8 was leaked by Mojang co-exec Jens "Jeb" Bergensten. Tweets by Persson indicate that he didn't oppose the premature release of the update to "expert users". But he tweeted, "If you do use it, remember to report bugs, and to feel slightly bad. ;)"

Buggy or not, due to popular demand, we're giving a quick guide on how to install Minecraft 1.8:

1) Download the Client MInecraft.jar file or the Minecraft_server.jar

2) Click the start menu in your Windows desktop. If you are using Window 7 or Vista, type into the search bar '%appdata%'. If you are using Windows XP, click 'Run' and type '%appdata%'.

3) Find and open the '.minecraft' folder.

4) Go into the 'bin' folder and find the Minecraft.jar file.

5) Substitute the existing Minecraft.jar file with the new downloaded version.

6) Close the folder down and run Minecraft.

7) Enjoy Minecraft 1.8 (Beta).

Just Push Start notes that deleting current worlds is not required and the update will only work on a legitimate Minecraft copy (not pirated).

Minecraft 1.8 contains new adventure elements, including terrain features, villages, dungeons, enemy monsters, animations, a sprinting mechanic, a new "survival mode" that forces players to hunt for food or build a farm to stay alive, and a new "creative mode" that allows players to have access to all items to create constructions on massive proportions.

The full version of the game is expected to be unveiled at the Official Minecraft Event on Nov. 18 to 29, at Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas Nevada. Versions for Android, Apple's iOS and Microsoft Corp. are also slated for release this year.

Although the game is still currently in "beta", Mojang, the video game developer founded by Persson, has already sold more than 3.4 million copies of Minecraft, which has been continually updated and patched since the release of the initial version in December.
