Microsoft Lumia 950 XL is the newest flagship from the Redmond giant. With high-end specs and features, the new Lumia phablet is powerful enough to take on the Apple iPhone 6s Plus and Android phablets. One of the last feature-rich and powerful Lumia handset is the Nokia Lumia 1520 from 2013.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is now blessed with Windows 10 Mobile and still appears to be a very competitive handset. Here is a comparison of the specifications, features and price between the Nokia Lumia 1520 and the Microsoft Lumia 950 XL.

Design and Display

The Lumia 950 XL is a phablet that measures 151.9 mm x 78.4 mm x 8.1 mm and weighs 165 grams. Since it comes with polycarbonate construction, it doesn't boast a premium appeal. On the other side, the Lumia 1520 is larger phablet that maintains a thin profile as it measures 162.8 mm x 85.4 mm x 8.7 mm and weighs 209 grams. It also features a polycarbonate chassis.

The Lumia 950 XL features a 5.7-inch AMOLED display that supports Quad HD resolution and is protected by Gorilla Glass 4. The older Lumia 1520 features a larger IPS LCD display of 6-inch that supports full HD resolution. The display is safeguarded by Gorilla Glass 2.

Chipset, RAM and Storage

The Lumia 950 XL is powered by the latest Snapdragon 810 chipset that features a 64-bit octa-core processor. It's supported by 3 GB of RAM. The native storage of the device is 32 GB and on its external storage users can add up to 200 GB in a micro SD card.

The Snapdragon 800 chipset that has now become obsolete powers the Lumia 1520, which is supported by 2 GB of RAM. The Lumia 1520comes in two storage variants of 16 GB and 32 GB. The additional storage supports a 64 GB microSD card.

Camera and Additional Features

Both handsets feature a 20 MP rear camera that supports Optical Image Stabilization. The Lumia 950 XL features a triple LED flash whereas the Lumia 1520 houses a dual-LED flash. A comparison of the camera performance of the two handsets by a Reddit user show the Lumia 950 XL is a better handset for photography.

The Lumia 950 XL features a 5 MP selfie shooter whereas the Lumia 1520 has a 2.1 MP camera on its front panel. The Lumia 950 XL is the first handset to come preloaded with Windows 10 Mobile. The Lumia 1520 that came with Windows Phone 8.1 is also upgradable to Windows 10 Mobile. The Lumia 950 XL comes with some unique features such as USB Type-C and an iris scanner.

Battery, Price and Release Date

The Lumia 950 XL is packed with a removable battery of 3,340 mAh capacity. Its older sibling features a larger but non-removable battery of 3,400 mAh capacity. Both handsets support wireless charging.

On Yatango, the Lumia 1520 is priced at $669. The Lumia 950 XL is not yet available for purchase. It will be available for $1,199.
