From the very first teaser scene at the end of credits in "Iron Man" which featured a visit from Nick Fury, there's been much talk about an upcoming Avenger film. Soon after, Marvel began dropping hints in their other films, and drove fans wild when they showed a teaser trailer at the San Diego Comic Con International which featured Samuel L. Jackson introducing the entire cast of "The Avengers."

For most comic book geeks and even most others who are not, there's nothing more exciting than all your favourite superheroes joining forces to fight against one common enemy.

The upcoming film will feature superstars such as Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and Scarlett Johansson as the ever-sexy killing machine, the Black Widow.

There are also some surprise cast members such as Cobie Smulders from the hit TV show "How I Met Your Mother" as Maria Hill and "The Hurt Locker's" Jeremy Renner playing Clint Barton.

"The Avengers" began production on April 2011 and is set for release on May 2012. It is rumoured that the movie's plot revolves around Nick Fury, the director of a peacekeeping agency called SHIELD, being forced to recruit a special team of superheroes to protect the earth from an extraterrestrial enemy that threatens to destroy it.
