Martin Scorsese picks his favorite horror films

Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese has referenced his encyclopedic knowledge of film to come up with his top 11 scariest movies of all time for "The Daily Beast" website. Perhaps the closest Scorsese has come to horror is his 2010 film "Shutter Island", nonetheless when this master of cinema talks we should all take note.

It seems that Scorsese finds films depicting haunted houses particularly terrifying as 6 of the 11 films focus strongly on solitary buildings. There was room on his list for cult classics "Psycho", "The Shining" and "The Exorcist" but some other picks might be unknown to most.
