Paradox Interactive, the publisher for the surprise hit "Magicka" franchise has announced the release date of the sequel. A quirky new launch trailer has been rolled out to mark the May 26 release of the fantasy-themed action-adventure game "Magicka 2." The game has been confirmed for the PC and PS4 platforms.

The reveal trailer employs a hilarious "fair use" example parodying the title theme from HBO's hit "Game of thrones" series, according to Eurogamer. The video accompanying the whimsical soundtrack, sung by Vlad who insists he isn't a vampire, showcases the 60fps gameplay and the crazy array of elemental spells characterising the game. The trailer sets the mood for the typical indie irreverence and the frenetic gameplay that fans have grown to love.

If the inherent craziness of the trailer embedded below doesn't make any sense, it would be wiser to play the first Magicka game. This should get gamers up to speed with the fast-paced action of the franchise and the finer nuances of improvising various combinations of elemental spells. For those who prefer something less confounding, here's a bit more informative but equally hilarious trailer. In this version, Vlad (who still insists he isn't a vampire) talks about the four-player co-op and the new articfact system that promises to provide a new experience each time.

PC Gamer reports that the artefact system adds the versatility of changing virtually every single gameplay element one could think of. This includes tweaking enemy strength and spell varieties, in addition to funnier things such as making wizards portly or playing stock laughter tracks each time an enemy is killed. The core game carries forward the same four-player co-op centric action involving elemental spells that can be used in various combinations to deadly effect.

The original "Magicka" was developed by eight students at Luleå University of Technology in Sweden and subsequently picked up by publisher Paradox Interactive for distribution. The game has sold 2.8 million copies on Valve's Steam distribution platform as of June 2014, according to a Softpedia report. Eurogamer reckons that the indie game's spectacular performance has singlehandedly resulted in a 250 percent increase in profits for the publisher Paradox Interactive.
