When “The Last Of Us 2” was officially revealed at the PlayStation Experience event in December, the audience erupted into applause. But since then, game developer Naughty Dog has given very little information about the upcoming sequel -- but what it has provided is of utmost importance for every player looking to pick up the game.

One of the most important things to keep in mind before playing “The Last Of Us 2” is that Ellie will be the main protagonist in the game. While players who fell in love with the original 2013 game got a glimpse of 14-year-old Ellie in action, she was arguably nothing more than a supporting character that pulled at heartstrings. But in the upcoming title, creative director Neil Druckmann has confirmed that she is filled with hate and is undoubtedly seeking for revenge.

Another thing is that five years have passed between the titles -- a little more than players have actually waited for a sequel thus far. Throughout gameplay, players will most likely unveil bits and pieces of those five years, but what will be revealed is still unknown at this point. However, with Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson reprising their roles as Joel and Ellie respectively, it is clear that “The Last Of Us 2” will still focus on these two characters.

“‘The Last Of Us’ is about these two characters specifically,” Druckmann re-established in December. “‘Part 2’ is saying this is going to be a larger story; it’s going to be a complementary story to the first game -- but together, the two combined are going to tell this much larger tale.”

The years have definitely done something to both Joel and Ellie. While the now 19-year-old is evidently stronger both physically and emotionally, Joel seems to have withered with the years. No longer is he Ellie’s protector, as he instead seems to have taken the role as her conscience. He asks whether or not Ellie is sure about her plan -- whatever it is -- to which she answers with a distinctive yes.

“The Last Of Us 2” has no official launch date as of yet. Druckmann revealed that Naughty Dog has an inkling about when the release will be, but that the company would prefer to stay silent on this until things are set in stone.
