A recent report done by International Data Corp. (IDC) revealed that Microsoft's Windows Phone is set to conquer the worldwide market share for mobile phones and even beating out Apple's iOS by the year 2016.

The report also mentioned that the reason for this predicition is due to the predicted success of Nokia in the years to come. Most of the phones produced by the Finland-based phone manufacturer runs with the Windows platform and this would have a great effect regarding the type of OS most users utilize. IDC discussed their research report further stating the following:

"Windows Phone 7/Windows Mobile will gain share despite a slow start. Windows Phone 7/Windows Mobile will be aided by Nokia's strength in key emerging markets. IDC expects it to be the No. 2 OS with more than 19 percent share in 2016, assuming Nokia's foothold in emerging markets is maintained."

Presently, Android has the biggest share in the smartphone market thus accounting for 61% of market share in the market. Apple's iOS comes in second place with 20.5% and the third place goes to Windows Phone for 5.2%. In order for Windows Phone to reach the second spot, it has to beat Apple in the market share for smartphones-something that is hard to do considering the anticipation that people has over Apple products more specifically, iPhone 5.

On the other hand, Nokia is confident that it will regain its footing in the smartphone market despite the fact that their sales figure have declined. Stephen Elop, the CEO for Nokia revealed that their latest Nokia Lumia devices have met with success and they are hoping for the same outcome with their next Nokia products.
