Signing up on DropBox is free and you get a basic account that allows you to save up to 2 gigabytes of content. If you wish to have more available storage space, you can do so for free by following a few steps. Here are some methods to boost your DropBox storage space without paying anything.

1. Give referrals. Providing referrals will give you 500MB of free space for each new subscriber. Just persuade friends and colleagues to join and open a DropBox account and you will get more storage space. If the referred person subscribes a paid account, you earn 1GB of extra space. You can keep earning up to 16GB of free space from referrals alone. If you have a paid subscription with DropBox Pro, you can have as much as 32GB of storage space.

2. Link and provide feedback. You can get 125MB of free storage space by linking your Facebook and Twitter accounts to DropBox. You earn an extra 125MB if you follow DropBox on Twitter. Link your Mailbox account on your iPad or iPhone to get 1GB of free space. If you wish to unlink the accounts later, you still get to have the extra storage space. When you complete the “Getting Started” guide on DropBox, you get 250MB of free space. Give feedback to the company to earn 125MB of free space. Tweeting the comment will provide an extra 125MB.

3. Be aware of challenges. DropBox will feature various challenges for all its users every now and then, such as Space Race and Dropquest. Trendblog.net suggests that you join these to get as much as 15GB of free storage space. The challenges will be made known to you on the DropBox Blog.
