Actress Helena Bonham Carter and director Tim Burton split after spending 13 years together. The split was confirmed by Carter's rep.

Carter and Burton "amicably" separated earlier in 2014. According to reports, they have remained friends as they are going to co-parent the children from their 13-year of staying together. The couple never got married since 2001 when they first met each other on the sets of "Planet of the Apes." People magazine reports that the rep asked people to respect the privacy of the celebrities as well as their children. T

The 56-year-old director is famous for celebrated movies like Batman Returns, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland. Carter, on the other hand, was nominated twice for the Academy Awards. The 48-year-old actress was nominated for the Oscars for playing Kate Croy in "The Wings of the Dove" and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother in "The King's Speech."

The couple teamed up to make several blockbuster films since they had come together. Some of the hugely successful movies include "Dark Shadows," "Alice in Wonderland" and "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street." Huffington Post reports that there have been speculations about troubles in their relation in 2010 when it was rumoured that the couple were sleeping in separate beds. It was reported that Carter and Burton were, in fact, residing in two separate houses adjoined together. Burton was earlier photographed kissing a woman in 2013. Carter, however, dismissed the story of her partner cheating on her as "absolute nonsense."

Carter earlier confirmed the speculations of staying separately by saying that the size of his house was the reason. "We just have two houses knocked together because mine was too small," he said, "We see as much of each other as any couple, but our relationship is enhanced by knowing we have our personal space to retreat to. It's not enforced intimacy." He said that it would be flattering for anyone who could afford it.

Carter earlier attended the "Wizarding World of Harry Potter" expansion at Universal Orlando Resort. She was accompanied by burton, daughter Nell (7) and son Billy (11). She said that Burton represented "love" to her.
