Dave Bautista wants a solo movie of his character Drax from the “Guardians of the Galaxy,” even if it means someone else gets to play the role. The actor has been in the news lately for his support of Director James Gunn, who was fired after some of his inappropriate old online comments resurfaced.

In an interview with MTV International posted on YouTube, Bautista said that he “really pushed and fought” to get a solo film of Drax. He pointed out that the character has a beautiful backstory, which evidently has been “lost and overlooked a little bit.”

“It's a beautiful and heartbreaking emotional thing to know where that love for his family and that heartbreak over his family being lost and murdered, where it comes from I think,” Bautista said.

Bautista feels that the fans too would love to see the backstory of Drax. The actor is ready for the solo film even if he is not the one playing the role. He has also repeatedly said that he is not keen on reprising his role in the next “Guardians of the Galaxy” film. Disney is still looking for a director to replace Gunn, so the project is on hold as of this writing.

Drax may be seen next in “Avengers 4.” The character died at the end of “Infinity War,” along with many of the other superheroes. Bautista talked about watching the reaction of the people who saw the film at the premiere. At the end of the movie the audience was not sure what to do, because of the sombre ending. Eventually everyone gave a thunderous applause.

Bautista too is keen to find out what happens next in the film. The untitled “Avengers 4” movie is set to be released on May 3, 2019 in the US. The producers are yet to announce a release date for Australia.
