Facebook, the largest social networking, recently revamped its Events page with calendar and lists view.

The calendar and lists view in the events page makes it much easier to see different events like birtdays, parties, and other special events. The calendar view also showcase events that are scheduled to happen in the next months.

The Facebook events page started out as a Facebook hackathon project which aims to improve the functionality of this feature. These efforts has now led to Facebook events being an important part of the social network's site. Bob Baldwin, a Facebook software engineer, who was the one responsible for creating the homepage Events permalink remarked that it was done in order to make it easier to organize different events and birthdays. Baldwin explained this project further in his blog post stating the following:

"Before a recent hackathon, a few of us created a Facebook group called 'Social Calendar Dreamers' to spark discussion around making Events more visual. At the next hackathon, engineers from the events, photos, messages, and other teams hacked through the night to build a better way to view events. By 6 a.m., we had a prototype that worked."

Facebook users can easily access it through the Events dashboard which has a list and calendar view. The list view enables users to show daily events that users are invited to as well as suggested events that they could attend or refuse to attend. Users are able to access to this feature without leaving the page. As for the calendar view, users would be able to view the events though a calendar-type of format which lists down events, birthdays, and RSVPs by date. The calendar view even shows events that would occur in the months to come.

The feedback regarding this new and improved feature in Events page were mixed. Some Facebook users were happy with this improvement while other Facebook users were not that happy with this development. Some even consider this effort as a tad late since this feature should already be incorporated in the social networking site.
