The developer Techland, widely recognised for its line of open-world zombie survival games, has a reason for cheer. "Dying Light," the company's latest survival horror game, is a massive hit with fans of the genre. This accomplishment has been backed by unprecedented sales, which has catapulted the game into top-ten charts for videogame sales. The survival horror title has managed to sell more copies than rivals such as "The Order: 1886" and "Evolve" in U.K. "Dying Light" is now comfortably nestled in the top spot for the second consecutive week in the U.K. sales chart.

To put the profundity of this feat into perspective, it must be noted that its competition in the form of Ready At Dawn's PS4 exclusive and 2K Game's multiplayer centric game are heavyweight AAA titles with massive development and marketing budgets. What's more impressive is how this feat has been achieved despite a remarkably jinxed U.K. launch for the game, according to Gamespot. The game had initially launched on Jan. 27 in the US, and was supposed to hit the U.K. shores within a week. A disastrous distribution snafu caused the release to be pushed forward by a month to Feb. 27.

To make matters worse – sales charts wise, obviously – the U.K. delay didn't affect the digital sales in the country across the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms. It must be noted that digital sales aren't counted for calculating the sales position in the U.K. charts. "Dying Light's" ability to keep two of the biggest AAA releases at bay to hold the number one position despite these odds is impressive. It speaks volumes about British gamers' preference for parkour-enhanced survival horror experience provided by the game.

Interestingly, VG247 points out that the game has managed to dominate the UK charts despite the actual sales falling by a whopping 48 percent. This could be construed as a sign that although the consumer demand for "Dying Light" has subsided, gamers still aren't going for AAA alternatives such as "The Order: 1886" and "Evolve" as much.

"Dying Light" is the spiritual successor to Techland's original open-world zombie-themed survival horror offering "Dead Island." The latest release brings the same winning formula from its predecessor, which combined FPS gameplay with skill tree and experience system mechanics from the RPG genre. The successor adds parkour-styled speed running based navigation in a world enhanced with dynamic day and night cycles that affect enemy aggressiveness and dramatically changes the basic gameplay approach.
