There are many news reports that are circulating around the web regarding the pending release of Apple's iPad 3. Ever since the "official invitation" has been sent out to the press, several news reports indicate that the target release date will be a go while other news reports are saying that a delay in the release date should be expected.

Release Date is Delayed

There are several rumors coming from several sources which states that the release date for iPad 3 will be delayed. Many people speculated that the pre-selling of iPad 3 will begin on March 7 thus coinciding with the "big event" that Apple had announced. According to Mark Gurman's blog post, "sources are now saying that next-generation iPad shipments are already landing at ports of multiple countries around the world, so expect near-immediate availability. That does not mean you can buy one on event day, but likely within one to two weeks after the announcement".

Release Date is a Go

On the contrary, there are several news reports which indicate that the supposed release date of iPad 3 is a sure go. One indication is that Best Buy is now cutting its selling price on the iPad 2. Many people are speculating that the price cut is Best Buy's method to clear out its inventory in order to make way for the release of iPad 3 in the market.

The price cut is US$50 across the board which means that the following selling price is now in effect:

iPad 2 16GB = US$549.99

iPad 2 3G (16GB) = US$579.99

iPad 2 32GB = US$549.99

iPad 2 3G (32GB) = US$679.99

iPad 2 64GB = US$649.99

iPad 2 3G (64GB) = US$779.99

Nothing is really official as of yet except for the "big event" on March 7 which will be held at the Yerba Nuena Center in San Francisco. Previous "big events" that showcased the launch of iPad and iPad 2 were also done in the same avenue and same time period.
