This story about the "love hormone" does not involve women at all. According to a new study conducted on the male population, the nasal spray for the oxytocin hormone has been found to help men to lose weight.

The researchers at the Harvard Medical School in Boston found the new way to weight loss in men by identifying the impact of a one-time use of oxytocin nasal spray. Their study results revealed that the nasal spray has a potential to act as an effective solution for weight control.

The researchers conducted the study among a sample population of 25 middle-aged men, out of whom 12 men belonged to either obese or overweight category. The participants were asked to take their breakfast after one hour of self-administering the oxytocin nasal spray. After having double the amount of breakfast they were offered, the total food consumption was noted by the researchers. The test was repeated after a period of two weeks.

The scientists discovered that after administering oxytocin spray, the subjects were consuming 122 less calories than before, and the overall fat intake was lessened by 9 grammes.

Earlier different researches revealed the positive effects of oxytocin in females, however, its positive effect of weight loss in men seems a promising one. Oxytocin, or the "love hormone" plays an important role in sexual activity, pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding.

The researchers presented their study findings at the annual meeting of the Endocrine Society.
