In the latest “Clash of Clans” 2017 update, Supercell has expanded the battlefield. It features a brand new one-on-one battle mode. The update is centred around the Builder Base on a new part of the map.

New features of the update include an unlockable new hero, the Master Builder, new troops including Cannon Cart and Bomber, new character abilities such as new cloaking ability or Sneaky Archer, upgraded abilities for existing buildings like the Archer Tower and 1-on-1 Versus Battle mode. It’s nearly five years since the mobile game was launched, and in 2016, it reported earnings of almost US$1 billion. In the strategy category, the game was one of the top 10 downloads in both Google Play Store as well as Apple App Store.

Since its 2012 launch, “Clash of Clans” has earned more than US$2.8 billion worldwide in net revenue. As per head of mobile insights at research firm Sensor Tower, Randy Nelson, 46 percent of all revenue came from US accounts. The game has been a tremendous hit in the overseas market. Due to Supercell’s ability to develop successful mobile games worldwide, Tencent acquired a majority stake in 2016 taking the value of the studio to about US$10.2 billion.

The game’s China market is also doing great, and is estimated to reach US$35 billion in 2021, market analyst Niko Partners has revealed, reports VB. Hence, Supercell has repaired the boat, which was sitting at the edge of the village in a broken state. It’s an entirely new base where the rules are different from the “Clash of Clans” world left behind. It’s a fresh start across the sea in a night-time map. The latest update is pretty much “Clash of Clans 2.” The Builder Base looks like the original game at night.

Units now have special abilities, Barbarians receive a rage boost and archers are cloaked for a few seconds. While Defence and Attack are still asymmetric, players will now have to fight head-to-head battles. The winner gets a massive victory bonus and also trophies from the fight. This time, there is more emphasis on winning than accumulating resources through raids. New buildings and traps are also on offer, writes Forbes. The Builder Base is a massive upgrade of the Supercell formula.
