Huge amounts of money were spent at auctions to secure classic collections such as Marilyn Monroe's copyrighted photographs with negatives, Charlie Chaplin's cane, Marilyn Monroe pictures, and costumes from 'Wizard of Oz' & 'Sound of Music'.

Thousands of photo negatives of the legendary Marilyn Monroe along with other stars were sold for USD1.8m. The photographs were masterly taken by Milton Greene, the celebrity photographer who was responsible for making stunning impression for the stars. The said archive captures Marilyn Monroe's frozen moments in 3700 slides and negatives. Every material was put up for sale with copyright.

At another auction, several Hollywood memorabilia were sold for millions as well. The memorabilia included Charlie Chaplin's cane, Marilyn Monroe pictures, and costumes from Wizard of Oz & Sound of Music. Steve McQueen's jacket in Bullitt, along with other costumes used in The Sound of Music, was sold for millions. The tweed jacket was sold for USD720,000.

Charlie Chaplin made his cane immortal just like his tramp character in most of his films. Even though we saw him as a totally different character in Monsieur Verdoux where he plays a serial killer, we cannot separate his image of a tramp wandering around the city with his oversized pants, undersized coat and the ever flexible cane which he used for incalculable purposes.

One such cane which was used by Chaplin in Modern Times was sold for USD420,000 at this auction which was held Sunday as well Monday. The amount includes fees of the auction house.

Julie Andrews' dress from the song 'Do-Re-Mi' in The Sound of Music was a part of the sale of the film's costumes which fetched no less than USD1.56m. It was USD360,000 for the dress of Dorothy from the film The Wizard of Oz. A Lucille Ball dress with polka dots was sold for USD168,000. It was USD54000 for The Dude outfit. It was from The Big Lebowski.
